The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra — a deeply sacred Himalayan pilgrimage — is back, with the 2025 season having resumed in June, after a five-year break. Thousands of Indian pilgrims are preparing to travel to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in Tibet, seeking spiritual solace and divine connection.

When & Who Can Go

  • The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) organises the official Yatra between June and September.
  • Eligibility: Indian citizens aged 18–70, in good health with a BMI of 25 or below, holding a valid passport.

Routes to Choose From

There are two main MEA-approved routes:

  1. Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand) — Takes about 22 days per batch.
  2. Nathu La Pass (Sikkim) — Around 21 days to complete.

Approximate Cost Breakdown

Based on the route:

  • Lipulekh Pass Route: ~ ₹1.74 lakh per person
  • Nathu La Pass Route: ~ ₹2.83 lakh per person

These costs generally include the pilgrimage package, permits, accommodation, meals, guides, and emergency medical support.

How to Apply

To take part, you’ll need:

  • A valid Indian passport (minimum six months validity)
  • Passport-size photo in JPG
  • Scanned copy of passport details and family page in PDF

The process typically involves an online lottery-based selection.

  • Physical Prep: This is a high-altitude pilgrimage — being medically fit is critical.
