Trump accuses The New York Times of decades-long bias and spreading falsehoods, labeling the paper a “virtual mouthpiece” for the Radical Left Democrat Party.
US President Donald Trump has announced a massive $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times, accusing the newspaper of waging a decades-long “campaign of lies” and serving as a “virtual mouthpiece” for the Radical Left Democrat Party.
“Today, I have the Great Honor of bringing a $15 Billion Dollar Defamation and Libel Lawsuit against The New York Times, one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the History of our Country, becoming a virtual ‘mouthpiece’ for the Radical Left Democrat Party,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He further called the Times’ endorsement of Kamala Harris, prominently displayed on the front page, “the single largest illegal Campaign contribution, EVER,” something he described as unprecedented.
Trump’s Accusations Against The New York Times
Trump accused the newspaper of spreading falsehoods about him, his family, his business, and his political movements such as America First and Make America Great Again (MAGA). He further condemned the Times for prominently endorsing Kamala Harris, which he described as “the single largest illegal campaign contribution, ever,” during the presidential race.
He also likened The New York Times’ coverage to that of other liberal media outlets like ABC and CBS, stating they have “practised a long-term intent and pattern of abuse, which is both unacceptable and illegal.”
Pattern of Media Lawsuits
This lawsuit follows similar legal battles Trump has had with major US media outlets including ABC News and CBS, both of which settled out of court. ABC settled for a $15 million donation to the Trump Library following a dispute over defamatory coverage, while CBS’s parent company Paramount agreed to pay $16 million, also directed to Trump’s library project.
Legal Proceedings and Next Steps
The defamation suit against The New York Times will be filed in Florida, where Trump currently resides. The lawsuit seeks to hold the newspaper accountable for what Trump claims is unchecked media bias and defamation that has personally and politically harmed him.
Trump ended his statement by reiterating his commitment to fight back against what he terms “Fake News” networks, declaring, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
