President now backs full disclosure, says “we have nothing to hide”
US President Donald Trump has made a sudden reversal on the Jeffrey Epstein files, urging House Republicans to vote in favour of releasing all related documents.
On Truth Social, the President wrote:
“House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide.”
This marks a clear shift from his earlier position, where he criticised efforts from within his own party to make the files public.
Why Trump Changed His Position
- Several lawmakers — including Rep. Thomas Massie and Rep. Ro Khanna — have been pushing the Justice Department to release all Epstein-linked documents.
- Key Trump allies like Marjorie Taylor Greene are also supporting the move.
- Reports suggest Republicans may now have enough support in the House to pass the bill, increasing political pressure on Trump to back it.
What The Release Would Include
If the proposal is approved, the Justice Department will be required to disclose:
- internal memos
- communication records
- investigation documents related to Epstein
Information identifying victims can still be redacted.
Trump has called the Democratic push around the case a “hoax,” but his new stance aligns with the growing demand for transparency inside the Republican Party.
Why It’s Significant
- The vote could reveal long-sealed details of one of America’s most controversial criminal cases.
- It adds to tensions within the GOP over how much should be made public.
- For Trump, the shift appears aimed at reducing political heat and matching the party’s evolving position.
