The United States Has Its Worst Day Of New Coronavirus Cases

The United States reported a record number of new coronavirus cases on Friday, surpassing the mark set on July 16.

The United States is in the midst of one of the most serious coronavirus waves to date , with more new cases reported across the country on Friday than on any other day since the pandemic began.

The United States surpassed its previous record for cases reported in a single day, which had been 75,687 on July 16.

More than 79,000 cases were reported nationwide on Friday, according to The New York Times count .

Based on that count, Friday was the worst day of the COVID-19 pandemic , with health experts warning of a further increase in cases as cold weather approaches.

Cases in the United States have risen sharply since mid-September, when the daily rate was around 40,000.

The number of people hospitalized with Covid-19 has already increased by 40% in the last month. Deaths have remained relatively flat, but are often a lagging indicator.

The United States reached 8,479,652 registered cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began on Friday and 223,845 deaths, according to a count by John Hopkins University.
