“Law and Order”: Trump’s First Event After Testing Positive for Covid-19
Trump held his first public event at the White House
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump made his first public appearance on Saturday since testing positive for coronavirus in front of a group of people at the White House.
“I feel very good,” the president started his speech from the balcony of the presidential residence, while the attendees, mostly young people in blue shirts and red caps, applauded and chanted “four more years.”
Trump, who appeared wearing a surgical mask and then retired with a blank fist, led an event that he dubbed “Law and Order.”
In his speech, lasting just over fifteen minutes, he assured that the meeting was convened in “support of the incredible men and women of the forces of order,” but that he also dedicated it to the African American and Hispanic community.
“I want to thank you all for your prayers,” said the president, whose condition has not been reported this Saturday.
This is Trump’s first public event since announcing a week ago that he tested positive for COVID-19 with his wife, Melania.
“We are starting very big with our rallies,” he added excitedly, declaring that he cannot allow the United States “to become socialist.”
Although the president claims to be well and to be recovered from the disease, doctors are not clear that Trump is no longer contagious.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) consider that a patient can be surrounded by people again ten days after showing symptoms for the first time, a point that Trump would reach this Sunday if, as the White House assures, he began to be ill on October 1.
Trump has tried to downplay his COVID-19 diagnosis since returning to the White House from the hospital last Monday, describing his contagion as a “blessing from God” and asking Americans not to be “afraid” of a pandemic that it has already killed more than 210,000 people in the United States.
