Facebook And Twitter Restrict Information About Biden That They Consider Unreliable. Trump Reacts…
The post suggested links between the Democratic candidate and Ukraine, but sources are dubious
Facebook and Twitter on Wednesday limited the distribution of a story published by the New York Post newspaper about alleged links between the Democratic candidate for the presidency of the United States, Joe Biden, and Ukraine , considering it unreliable.
This is an unusual decision of social networks due to its markedly editorial nature, and while Facebook chose to “reduce the distribution” of the article during the time that its verifiers analyze the story, Twitter chose to eliminate it completely.
Biden’s rival in the November elections, President Donald Trump, reacted on Twitter to the decision of social networks, which he called ” terrible ” and called again to eliminate the legal protections enjoyed by large internet platforms under section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996.
“It is terrible that Facebook and Twitter suppress the history of e-mails that are irrefutable evidence regarding the sleepy Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, in the New York Post . It’s just the beginning for them. There is nothing worse than a corrupt politician. Eliminate section 230! ”, Wrote the president.
The Post article is based on emails and other digital materials recovered from a computer that supposedly belonged to Biden Hunter’s son , a copy of which was provided to the New York newspaper by former New York mayor and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani.
It is precisely the fact that Giuliani is the source – along with former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, who was the one who first informed the newspaper of the existence of these materials – that has raised suspicions from several journalists and social networks about the reliability of the published information.
According to this, when his father was still vice president of the United States, Hunter Biden would have introduced him to an executive of the Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings , which was being investigated by the then attorney general of Ukraine, Víktor Shokin (2015- 2016).
The president also thanked the New York Post “for exposing the massive corruption of sleepy Joe Biden and our country. He has always been a corrupt politician. Ungrateful, ”he tweeted.
Trump’s environment has always maintained that Joe Biden forced Shokin’s dismissal through a phone call with the country’s former president, Petró Poroshenko, to protect his son, who was advising the company.
“I want to make it clear that this story meets the conditions to be verified by independent Facebook verifiers . In the meantime, we will reduce its distribution on our platform, ” Facebook’s head of communications policy Andy Stone wrote on Twitter about the New York Post article .
Twitter, for its part, decided to withdraw the story completely, claiming that it violates its internal policy against the publication of stolen digital material, since the contents of the computer would have been obtained without the consent of its alleged owner, Hunter Biden.
