“Allah Gave Me Life, He Will Take It”: Sheikh Hasina’s Defiant Message Before Verdict

Exiled Bangladeshi leader rejects tribunal charges, vows to continue her work no matter the verdict

Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued a bold and defiant message ahead of the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict against her. In an audio recording shared with supporters, she declared: “I don’t care … Allah gave me life, He will take it.”

Hasina, who has been living in self-imposed exile in New Delhi since she was ousted following nationwide protests, strongly denied all charges of crimes against humanity. She accused the interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, of trying to eradicate her Awami League party and reward “murderers” with amnesty.

“People will show … how Bangladesh can turn around; the people will do justice,” Hasina said, urging her party workers not to fear the tribunal’s decision. She reiterated her commitment: “I am alive, I will stay alive … Allah willing, I know everything will be accounted for.”

Hasina also defended her legacy, highlighting humanitarian efforts: “I gave refuge to 10 lakh Rohingya … and they accuse me of violating human rights?”

As the verdict day draws near, Bangladesh is on edge. Security has been significantly stepped up in Dhaka, reflecting concerns about potential unrest depending on the court’s decision.
