To free up space for international operations, Air India will move some domestic flights to Terminals 1 and 2 at IGI Airport.
Why the Change Is Being Made
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is expanding Terminal 3 (T3) to boost international passenger capacity. Because of ongoing construction and reduced domestic capacity at T3, Air India and Air India Express will relocate parts of their domestic operations to Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2) starting October 26, 2025.
What Flights Are Moving & When
- Out of 180 daily domestic flights, 60 flights of Air India will be shifted from T3 to T2
- Air India Express will move all its domestic operations to T1
- International flights of both airlines will continue to operate from T3 without any change.
What Passengers Should Know
- The flights moving to T2 will have four-digit flight numbers starting with “1” (e.g. AI1737) to help passengers identify the correct terminal
- A shuttle service every 10 minutes will connect T1, T2, and T3 for seamless transfers.
- For connecting flights, checked baggage will be transferred airside, so passengers won’t need to recheck them.
- Passengers are urged to confirm terminal information via Air India’s website, app, boarding pass, or booking confirmation
Impact & Context
- The terminal reshuffle aims to relieve congestion at T3 and facilitate smoother international operations.
- T2 has been upgraded and renovated to handle increased domestic traffic.
- The move could cause initial confusion, but the airline is deploying additional staff and notifications to assist passengers.
